What I Did Today - Fashion Week Edition

This week is Fashion Week in NYC! This is a week of fashion shows, runway designs, and fabulous sales throughout the city. I would give my left arm for a ticket to a runway show, particularly Betsey Johnson or the Project Runway Finale. However, the runway shows are invite only and unfortunately I am not in the know yet. However, one night through the week, they open up for the public and it is called Fashion's Night Out.

Stores across the city open up for sample sales, have celebrity guests, give away freebies, hold raffles, and basically beg you to come spend money in their store. That sounds like a fabulous way to spend an evening, but I had a different mission. Instead of going out and spending money, I really wanted to see how many awesome celebrities that I like, that I could see.

I started out going into Brooklyn and came across the cast of the show Big Sexy from TLC. The girls were awesome and they signed autographs and took pictures. I got them to sign a picture for my sister because she digs stuff like that. I also got to meet a few of the models that work in the plus size industry and they were also super nice.

Then I got on the Subway and made my way to Macy's herald Square. They had a night full of back-to-back events and I was able to hit the tail end of one event and the beginning of another. The first event was an interview with Mrs. J, from America's Next Top Model. She/He (I'm not sure which is politically correct) was fabulous, but I only got to take a few pictures because she/he was being interviewed.

Then I went downstairs and I got to see Shay Mitchell, who plays Emily on Pretty Little Liars. I love that show (guilty pleasure)! The crowd was crazy  for Shay and I even though I wanted to meet her, I was not about to wait in line for three hours because I still had the best celebrity waiting for last.

I left Macy's and headed downtown towards SoHo. This part of town was CRAZY! I literally had to fight my way through the crowd, but I finally arrived at my final destination, Lucky Brand Jeans. Here is where I stood in line outside of the store, stood inside of the store, and then I got to take this picture:

Tim Gunn! I was so excited and had to refrain from saying Make it Work, because that is just too cliche. He was amazingly friendly and just as fabulous as he is on Project Runway.

Basically my night was tiring, crazy, but so much fun! I really can't wait until next time, because I am going to try and meet some more people instead fo just taking pictures from afar. The streets and subways were crazy as you can see below. I elbowed and ducked my way around and finally made it to the subway.

After a fabulous night of seeing new designs, fancy pants celebrities, and lots of awesome deals I also got the pleasure of seeing some fashion styles that are a no go. Throughout the night, I saw way too many sparkles to even be described, heels so high that the guys towered over the crowd, and then I got to see these beauties on the train:

What is with that hat and skirt combo?                                                            and this man's faux hawk on his hat?

New York has it all. That is for sure.

It's Ok Thursdays

It's OK...

to be excited that today is the first day of school :)
to be ridiculously happy when you get a package.

to want a regular coffee pot, because a french press takes too much work in the morning.

to have a good day based on the first song that plays on your ipod.
to miss home every once and awhile.

to join a book club.

to laugh so hard you cry.
to love the Gators and be happy we won last weekend.

to hate this never ending rain storm that is happening in the North East.

to read blogs and not comment on every post.

Back to School

I still remember the feeling I used to get growing up when it was the night before the first day of school. A series of what ifs and maybes rush your brain and you start questioning everything you and your parents have done to get ready for the new year.

  • You spent days picking out the perfect outfit to wear that doesn't look too dorky or too over the top, but looks just cool enough. But what-if scrunchie socks aren't in style anymore?

  • You talk about the friends that might be in your class and then the frenemies you hope are in a different class. But maybe no one will be in your class or worse the girl that made fun of you last year?

  • You wonder what the teacher is going to be like and if the rumors you've heard are true. Maybe she really does assign homework EVERY SINGLE NIGHT!

  • You carefully pack your backpack full of the school supplies from your list and double check that your name is on the super awesome Lisa Frank folder (because no one is using that folder but me!) but what if the teacher doesn't see my name and I get stuck with a plain yellow folder?

I seriously thought these thoughts. I couldn't make this stuff up.

Now that I am 24, and the teacher (kinda sorta), I still get the night before jitters. I wonder if the students are going to listen, I wonder if the teachers will be super welcoming to the new girl form Florida, and I wonder if my outfit says that I mean business, but am totally a fun girl to be friends with too. I have my tote bag packed and the directions and bus schedule ready. I have eaten dinner, am about to take a shower, and will be in bed early (because showing up late is a big NO-NO.)Tomorrow is only pre-planning and the students won't show up until Thursday, but a girl can still be nervous about meeting all of the teachers, staff, and administration at the school.

I am so excited to start working and finally have a constant thing in my life, the first since I have moved to New York. I am a little curious about the schools up here and how my background will mesh together, but I am really looking forward to the challenges.

Here's to the first day back to school and to me not saying ya'll when I walk into the room.

What I Did Today - Museum Edition

On Saturday I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art, or as New Yorkers call it, The Met. I saw loads of interesting art and I loved how diverse the museum was. I could seriously walk around there for days and still not see everything. Here are the highlights of my visit:

Dali

Hieroglyphics
Pink China :)
Sphinx
Picasso
I forgot to get the name of the artist :(

Overall a really fun way to start my Saturday and I got to check off something on my September bucket list!

September Bucket List

It's Bucket List time again! I did pretty well in August and I am thinking that September will be a breeze :) Check out what I plan to accomplish this month!

Make it to a live audience taping- There are hundreds of shows that film in NYC and I want to sit in their audiences.

Eat from a food truck - Trying this out again.

Attend Fashion's Night Out - September means Fashion Week in NYC, but I am not invited to a fashion show, so I have to make do with the one night they open to the public :)

Go to the Labor Day Parade - because nobody does parades better than NYC!

Spend an afternoon in Central Park - because I have not taken advantage of this awesome lush park in the middle of Manhattan and because the weather is cooling down, so I won't die from the heat.

Go to a Museum or two - I may or may not have already cheated and accomplished this task, so I am adding in the hope to make it to another museum this month.

My list is somewhat short, but this month I  start working so I wont have as much free time as I did this Summer.

The Gator Nation is Everywhere!

I am swooning over the thought of college football starting on Saturday. As excited as I am, I also feel nostalgic.

For the past few years, I spent every Saturday watching my boys play. I proudly wore orange and blue in so many combinations I cannot even remember. I traveled to away games, I watched from the student section of the Swamp, and I tuned in from my TV when needed. I watched us win two National Championships, I watched us lose over a field goal, I yelled, I cheered, and I celebrated. Some of my greatest memories from college revolve around Gator Football.

I will miss the laughing, the cheering, and the fight song. I will miss the occasional tailgate, the free parking lot, and the halftime show. I will miss spending countless hours with friends, the singing of "We are the boys" at the end of the third quarter, and I will miss the sea of orange and blue in the stadium. I will miss my friends trying to sneak a few more friends into our section, I will miss Mr. Two bits, and I will miss the marching band. I will miss the feeling you get when the team rushes the field, I will miss stalking the players afterwards to get an autograph, and I will miss watching the games in the Swamp.

This year is so different. There won't be football parties to watch games at, there won't be Saturdays spent at the Swamp, and there won't be the Gator Chomp shared with 90,000 other fans. I feel very far away from the action, but I will be tuning in at 7 on Saturday to watch my boys, I will be in orange and blue and I will most likely get to do the Gator Chomp a few times :)
