What I Did This Weekend: Cinco de Mayo Edition!

This past weekend was a lot of fun. It was one of those weekends where I didn't have to accomplish any major tasks, I wasn't traveling out of the city, and I could just hangout with friends and relax.

On Friday:

I went to a book signing by Jen Lancaster, who is an author that I have been a fan of for quite a few years. Her blog was one of the first blogs I added to my reader and I have read all of her memoirs and her novel. She is snarky, full of stories, and can always make me laugh while I'm reading. It was really nice to see her in person, listen to her read a chapter from her newest book, Jeneration X, and  get my book signed.

Then I went and had an early Cinco de Mayo dinner with two friends. We ate tacos, shared guacamole, and could barely hear ourselves think over the live mariachi band playing three feet from our table.

On Saturday:

I woke up with a mariachi headache but quickly got over it as made my way to the DeKalb Market in Brooklyn to meet up with some other friends. I blogged about this particular market last Summer when it opened and it still surprises me to see stores inside shipping containers every time I go. We walked around, ate lunch, had delicious cupcakes, and then headed to a movie theater to watch The Avengers.

I had the Mint Julep cupcake from Robicelli's in honor of The Kentucky Derby: Mint-bourbon cake and buttercream with a hand candied mint leaf on top.

I ate this delicious bacon mac & cheese for breakfast and lunch. It was so worth the crazy amount of calories.

We also stopped for a midday beer to kill some time before our movie. It was delicious, I had the Smuttynose,  and really helped wash down the 3,000 previously consumed calories.

I also happened to rock these 3-D glasses in the theater. I do want to mention that this weekend was the first time I have ever gone to a 3-D movie and I was not a major fan. The glasses are difficult to wear over my current glasses, the idea of having things pop out of the screen is not ideal, and  I don't like that they cost 33% more than regular movies.

After the movie, my friends and I headed over to another friend's birthday BBQ in the East Village. It was really nice to spend the afternoon in a garden with friends and Cinco de Mayo inspired food. After a few hours, we got chilly hanging out outside and headed over to a bar where we knew that it wouldn't be crazy with tequila shots, pinatas, or tacos. It was a german restaurant with a grand menu of beers. More beer was had and a few more hours of talking and laughing. Sidenote: A few of us decided that since so much Cinco de Mayo festivities were happening we wanted to celebrate the Kentucky Derby with some Mint Juleps, and they were tasty.

Apparently, there were ghosts in the bar because every picture we took had orbs in it. Creepy. Overall, it was a long day, but very relaxing and fun.

On Sunday:

I napped, did laundry, caught up on some TV, went grocery shopping, and worked for a few hours. It was the most glorious day!

Bring on Monday, I'm actually ready this week!
