This Week in NYC

First up: Birthdays.

This past week has been filled with birthday adventures.  I celebrated at a club, on a boat, and at a beer garden. There was also a fourth birthday dinner at a restaurant, but I can't find any pictures. It's always fun to get together with friends, but it's exhausting when everyone is born in the same week. I have another birthday party this weekend and then my June b-days will be over and people can start thinking my awesome July birthday.

Next: Smorgasburg

Smorgasburg  is an amazing food market open on Saturdays during the Summer. There are a bajillion food and drinks vendors and the choices are endless.

I had a small taco at Bite Size Kitchen, it was Red Curry Coconut Chicken with toasted crushed peanuts, cilantro and a lime wedge. OMG it was so freaking delicious.

Then I tried a hotdog from Asiadog. It was a chicken dog with Asain slaw and toasted sesame seeds. Also delicious.

To finish it up, I had a red plum shaved ice from People's Pops. It was cool because the guy freshly shaved the ice for each cup when you ordered. Refreshing!

What I Did Today:Twitter for the win edition!

So I really did this last Monday, but is anyone really counting?

I am a non-Twitter-er. Therefore, I speak and write in sentences longer than 140 characters. I don't really understand the point of Twitter or the fascination people have with it since we have facebook, blogs, text messages, etc. However, my friend Jenny loves her Twitter, she has a job that allows her to peruse Twitter all day long, among other things of course. Last week, Jenny won tickets to a concert through Twitter. I've never won tickets to a concert from facebook, or a blog, or a text message, so in this case Twitter wins.

Back to the concert.

She won VIP tickets to see the Silversun Pickups, Live on Letterman, at the Ed Sullivan Theater. She invited me. I agreed, even though I didn't know a lot of their music. We went. We sat in the front row. We were live broadcasted on the internet. My sister got to see us on her computer. We danced (or bopped), sang (or pretended to), and listened to some awesome music. Then the show ended. Jenny got a set list. We went home. Awesome night!

Here are some pics:

Outside with our tickets in the VIP line!

The stage from our seats! So freaking close!

The band! They were amazing!

The set list!

and in case you are interested, here is the link to see the entire concert that was broadcast online! They show my friend and I a few times, but you can clearly find me around the 12:45 mark.

Bucket List May/June

What was supposed to happen in May:

  • Attend a Yankees Game! Check
  • Eat a street vendor hotdog (this is for my mom, so she will stop harassing me!) Harass away!
  • Go to the Bronx Zoo
  • Maybe I'll buy that air conditioner. Still not hot enough!
  • Get Contacts!
  • Figure out my Summer travel plans. I got plans, but I'll share them in a different post :)
  • Go to a festival or two or three (it's that season) I went to Googa Mooga, a random food street festival, and a BBQ Festival!
  • Plan out the concerts/shows/movies that will be happening this Summer that I want to go to. I have a few plans, but I want to make more.
  • Hand out resumes to 25 schools for a job next year! I think I may have only handed out 20, but that's 20 more than April!

What should happen in June:
  • I might eat that hotdog
  • I will move into a new apartment
  • I will go to a concert or show
  • I will check out a new museum or two
This month is kinda sorta crazy with trying to find an apartment and also job hunting, so let's keep it simple and then I won't fail. Plus, this short list leaves a lot of room for spontaneous adventures, which are always epic.

Camera FAIL

So the camera on my cell phone broke. This means that not only am I digital camera-less, I am now camera-less all together. This is a sad state of affairs for me because without pictures:

How am I to show you the man walking his parrot down 125th street?

How am I going let your eyes burn by the woman who forgot to put on pants but decided that she would continue her day regardless?

How will I ever be able to explain the crazy woman who took a sit on the sidewalk and began yelling and throwing things (sprite, books, and cigarette butts) at the people walking by?

The things I see on an everyday basis need to be documented and I not able to do so. I really need to get this camera thing sorted ASAP!

It's OK Thursday!

Its Ok Thursdays

It's OK....

to be thrilled that I have this random Thursday off of work.

that I have nothing planned for today.

to love the weather that is happening in the city!

that I went to a concert and haven't mentioned it yet. (I will!)

to be jealous of all my Florida friends who have finished their school year!

to love my cat even if she makes it 1000x harder to find an apartment.

that I am confused about why people won't rent apartments to people with pets. Not everyone is a crazy pet owner.

to have ridiculously bright nail polish on.

to have 9 different half posts written, but no energy to make them complete.

to have already started on my June bucket list, even if I haven't shared it with you. It will happen, maybe tonight.

Happy Thursday!

Weekend Blues

This weekend was interesting.
On Saturday, I sat in my bed, doing nothing form 10AM to 3PM because I could. The past few months have been non-stop and I really really wanted to stay in my PJs and just relax. I caught up on TV finales, downloaded some new books, and started looking for apartments. I am glad that I did stay in, but I did miss out on some beautiful weather outside.

Saturday night, I met up with some friends for dinner and a show. We ate at Southern Hospitality, which is located in Hell's Kitchen and is a southern food restaurant owned by Justin Timberlake.

The food was good. I got the BBQ pulled pork sandwich and I really enjoyed it. It came with a side of fries and some coleslaw.  The portions were large. There were leftovers.

The prices were reasonable. Very reasonable for NYC! I would totally recommend this to a friend.

The atmosphere was cool. Dim lighting, TVs in the bar area, music in the background. Not fancy, but very relaxed and BBQ-esque.

Then we went to see Potted Potter. The play was a parody of all seven Harry Potter books mashed into 70 minutes.

The set was minimal, the cast contained two members, and the jokes were back to back. I enjoyed myself even though the play was different than expected.

On Sunday:

I slept in, went and viewed an apartment, worked for a few hours, and then went grocery shopping. One of those errand running, have-things-to-do sort of days.

 In other news:

My broken toe is still broken. It is no longer purple, but it still hurts and is swollen. After a long day, it is really swollen. I can't find shoes that make it feels better. I might have a broken toe forever.

I have officially starting looking for a new apartment. Due to many many reasons that I can't explain here, although it would give me enough blog posts for the entire Summer, I am moving July 1st.  I can't wait to get out of this apartment and then tell you why.

Have a good week :)
