Funny thing...

It's been 3 weeks, 1 day, and approximately 18 hours since I have last eaten meat.

No worries....I'm OK. It turns out I rather like vegetables.

I have enjoyed finding ways to get some protein into my diet. Like peanuts and eggs. I have also eaten more chick peas in the last few weeks than I have in my entire life.

I have a new found love of oranges and avocados. Food that I have always been on the fence about.

I'm pretty sure my food bill has been lowered and I know I have been saving money when eating out at restaurants. Veggies are cheaper than meat :)

Sausage-less sausages are actually kinda tasty. Beef-less beef strips are not.

Some of my friends dig the idea, others think I'm crazy! I am constantly hearing, "I don't know how you haven't eaten meat, I love meat, I could never do that!" or the complete opposite "I've been vegetarian for year now, it's so much easier than people think." I am 100% certain than I will return to eating meat. I have seriously gone through weird cravings in the past few weeks.

First, I wanted a lamb gyro from the halal cart on the corner. No hot sauce, white sauce, tomatoes and lettuce. Thanks.

Then it was chicken. I almost caved today when I walked into the break room and a teacher was eating this completely delicious spelling, 1000 calorie, piece of fried chicken.  It spelled like the most appetizing thing ever and I'm not a big fried chicken eater. I do, however, missed baked chicken. It was a staple in my dinner rotation and I often struggle for substitutes, which leads me to eat blueberry waffles for dinner :)

Basically, this experiment has been interesting. The first two weeks it was exciting - I wanted to find new recipes, I cooked a lot of veggies, and I enjoyed the challenge. Now I just need some meatloaf. or turkey burgers. or halal cart greatness. How many days are left?

  1. I am one of those people who watches these experiments with shock and awe. It's not that I love meat so much, but there are very few fruits and veggies that I enjoy. So if I cut meat out of my diet I would starve. Good luck, girl! Be strong and earn those bragging rights!
